Ecological Survey Techniques Course
This introductory level course will greatly enhance your understanding of ecological surveys and assessment and give you a chance to gain some field experience relevant to both conservation and consultancy.
The following survey techniques will be covered during this 2-day course:
- Plant quadrat surveys
- Identifying common grassland and woodland plants
- Small mammal trapping and identification
- Butterfly transect
- Breeding bird survey
- Basic bat ecology and bat walk, using detectors
Please note that most of the course is field based. Site visits will involve sustained walking for up to 5km, some of which will be over rough ground. Please ensure that you are capable of this before booking.

Where: The course will be based at our training centre at The Granary, Westpoint, Sidmouth Road, Clyst St Mary, Exeter, EX5 1DJ. In case you need to stay overnight, we have provided a list of local accommodation.
Date: Monday 2nd - Tuesday 3rd July 2012

Timings: On the first day the course will start at 10:30 am and will finish at 4:30pm. In the evening we will meet for a meal, set up some small mammal traps and go for a bat walk. The evening activities are optional and the timings aredependant on sunset times. On the second day the course will commence at 8:30am and finish at around 4:00pm.
Price: The price of the course varies according to your situation: £200 (standard fee); £160 for unemployed/full time students/full time volunteers; and £260 if your organisation is paying. This fee covers tuition only. Prices are inclusive of VAT.
