Ecological Site Assessment and Report Writing

Ecological Site Assessment and Report Writing

Ecological site assessment and report writing is an essential skill for any ecological consultant. Whilst on this 2-day course you will have the opportunity to visit and assess a range of different sites around Exeter, with the guidance and tuition of an experienced ecologist.

During the course you will:

  • Conduct preliminary ecological appraisals at 3 different 'development' sites
  • Identify which protected species (eg. dormice, badgers and bats) may be present on site, by recognizing signs and suitable habitat
  • Identify protected habitats on site eg. hedgerows
  • Discuss any further survey work which will be required
  • Learn about relevant wildlife legislation
  • Learn how to conduct a data search and desk study
  • Learn how to write a report

Please note that site visits will involve sustained walking for up to 4 km, some of which will be over rough ground, so please ensure you are capable of this before booking.
